Romanesque abbeys in Provence. Sénanque is still lived in by the monks.

Roussillon

The small village of Roussillon, which is also ranked among “The Most Beautiful Villages of France”, is famous for its ochre cliffs streaked with color from the brightest yellows to the deepest reds.

Ochre is everywhere, in the landscapes and in the washes used on the houses. Enjoy the many hues as you stroll through the streets and squares of Roussillon.

On the way to Bonnieux, you will discover The Pont Julien it is on the antique Via Domitia, the main trade road linking Italy to Spain through the south of Gaul. The building of the roman bridge was achieved in the year 3 BC.

Fontaine de Vaucluse, the Sorgue river

The emerald green calm summer waters become spectacular in the wet seasons, (automn and spring). 90 m³ of water per second spill into the bed of the River Sorgue.

In all seasons secondary sources flow into the river to create an extremely beautiful shady pool, under the immense plane trees.

The success of the village is essentially due to the impressive spring which flows out of the 230 m high cliff. This gigantic source is the most powerful on France and fifth in the world. 630 million cubic meters of water flow out every year.
